Alaska Native Women: Backbones of the Family
Like mothers around the world, Alaska Native women are primarily the backbones of the family. They have tons of knowledge of culture, living, nature, and everything else. With many skills, these women can do a variety of things. Even though women are thought of being housewives, they have their own strengths and responsibilities. They do things tirelessly to keep themselves, their families, and even their communities happy.

Makers of Clothing
Native women sew the clothing that is necessary for survival in the Arctic, such as these raincoats made of mammal intestines. It is amazing to see clothing like this that is made from intestines of mammals, that are light and warm. They are worn by indigenous people all along the west coast of Alaska, Siberian, Canadian, and Greenland eskimoes. Click on the sealgut raincoat link to learn more.
